FAQ’s

Can I change the delivery address after I have placed my order?

It depends. If you have made a mistake with your delivery details then contact us immediately on +44(0)1729 823638 and we will update them if we can. For security reasons orders placed over the telephone must be shipped to the billing address. If the order has already left our office then the delivery address cannot be changed. If this happens we will need to wait for the parcel to be returned to us and then post the parcel out again at your expense.

Can someone else sign for my delivery?

Yes they can. Car & Kitchen accepts no responsibility if the signature received at the delivery address is not the intended recipient, and will consider this parcel correctly delivered.

Will I have to pay customs and import charges?

It depends. Any customs or import duties are charged by local customs agencies once the parcel reaches its destination country. These charges must be paid by the recipient of the parcel.

Can you mark the parcel as a “gift” or declare a lower value for my order so I don’t have to pay customs charges?

Why hasn’t my order arrived yet?

International shipments can occasionally take longer than expected. Goods can be held up in customs or there can be delays during the handover from one country to another. If you’re an international customer and your order hasn’t arrived after 10 working days from you receiving your despatch email then please contact us on +44(0)1729 823638 and we will try and help in any way that we can.

We would suggest that first you check you haven’t been left a card from the couriers.

What happens if my parcel gets lost?

Things occasionally go missing in the post. Don’t worry, all shipments are fully insured and we will be happy to make a claim on your behalf if your order is lost. Our policy is to give you a full refund or to send a replacement once the required time has passed, stated by the relevant shipping company in their terms.

If the reason a parcel takes longer than expected to arrive, or gets lost, is because the address given was incorrect or incomplete we cannot accept any liability for this. Obviously we'll try to help as much as we can.

Generally we need to wait 10 days from dispatch to begin investigating missing parcels.

Do you deliver to PO BOX addresses?

No. Because of the high risk of fraud we are unfortunately unable to deliver to PO boxes.

If I have sent something back to be exchanged how will the replacement be delivered to me?

Our policy is to deliver any replacement items using the delivery method you chose for your original order. We reserve the right to use an alternative delivery method when it makes sense to us.

C&K - An Independent Department Store

We are a family-run independent department store based in Settle, North Yorkshire, at the gateway to the stunning Yorkshire Dales. Spread over two floors, C&K offers a thoughtfully curated range of homeware, gifts, kitchenware, children’s toys and games, cards and stationery, women’s fashion and accessories — plus a welcoming in-house café on the first floor.

Our aim is to be more than just a shop; we want C&K to be somewhere you look forward to visiting — a welcoming place full of inspiration, interesting finds, and good food & great coffee.

C&K first opened its doors in 1976, founded by Henry’s grandparents. Known locally as Car and Kitchen, the business quickly earned its place as a Settle institution. Originally converted from a garage, the shop blended an unusual mix of car parts and kitchenware — a true reflection of Henry’s grandparents’ innovation and entrepreneurship at the time.

Through the years

A few years later, the business evolved again when Henry’s parents, Ken and Liz, joined the team. Liz had a natural flair for buying gifts, homeware, and fashion, while Ken — an intrepid foodie — opened a café upstairs, adding another layer to the store.

In 2014, Henry and Tash became part of the business. They have worked to reimagine the space thoughtfully — building on the foundations laid by previous generations, while gently evolving C&K into what it is today. Their aim has always been to carry forward the original spirit of Car and Kitchen: a welcoming place filled with interesting finds, good food, and a strong sense of community.

Over time, C&K has built a reputation for its eclectic mix of gifts, homeware, kitchenware, and women’s fashion — a reputation that continues to grow today.

Rooted in Settle and the Yorkshire Dales

Our deep connection to Settle and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales is a huge part of who we are. We’re proud to call this beautiful part of the world home — its landscapes, traditions, and spirit inspire everything we do.

To celebrate our roots, we developed a branding theme that features five distinctive elements of the local landscape

footpaths

The winding footpaths that weave their way across fields and valleys

Ribblehead Viaduct

The soaring arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct, one of Yorkshire’s most recognisable landmarks

dry stone walls

The dry stone walls that crisscross the hillsides

River Ribble

And the ever-changing River Ribble that runs through the heart of Settle

Three Peaks

The iconic Three Peaks standing proud over the Dales

Each of these symbols reminds us of the character and beauty of our area — strong, enduring, and timeless — and they underpin the spirit of C&K today.

We hope that whether you're visiting Settle for the first time, returning to explore more of the Yorkshire Dales, or simply popping in for a coffee, you’ll feel the same pride in this incredible place that we do.
